Cross-docking is a logistics process that reduces the overall delivery time of goods to increase supply chain efficiency. Goods are unloaded from in-bound vehicles at a logistics facility and then sorted onto vehicles handling outgoing shipments, with little or no storage time in between.
We perform a Deconsolidation Cross-Docking service where large in-bound shipments are sorted into smaller deliveries for delivery to receiver destination. Our cross-docking service can accommodate various shipment frequency, sizes or sortation requirements. With a delivery fleet that covers South Australia, Broken Hill and Mildura our cross-docking service can provide you with a one-stop shop for your business in South Australia.
The benefits of cross-docking include:
- Eliminates cost of long-term warehousing and handling.
- Reduced lead-time from order to delivery.
- Optimised inventory levels due to shorter lead-times.
- Supply Chain Visibility is enhanced through real-time tracking of goods through the supply chain.
We provide cross-docking services for freight arriving on interstate linehaul overnight from Melbourne and Sydney. Linehaul trailers arriving from 2 AM each night are unloaded and sorted in readiness the Metro & Outer Metro delivery fleet that depart from the Gillman depot by 7am each morning.
All linehaul freight received is checked against customer and transport manifest. Any manifest discrepancies are communicated back to the originator to enable accurate delivery information for both sender and receiver. We also offer a Delivery Bookings service that is often required for delivery into larger distribution centres with delivery timeslot requirements.
Cross-Docking with 1-2 days storage before delivery
While most cross-dock freight is in-and-out same day service, we also offer customers a daily storage option for those deliveries required 1-2 days after linehaul. This option is always by pre-agreement.
Cross-Docking with 1-3 weeks before delivery
In special circumstances, always by pre-agreement, we offer customers medium term storage options for those deliveries required 1-3 weeks after linehaul. Where even longer term storage is required, we offer a range of warehousing services.
To support the rapid reopening of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic we were asked to deliver masks to every school in the state within a few days.
